Finally!

I was quite anxious for almost 2 months because I still didn’t have my visa stamped on my passport. Finally I received it last week!

Changing to a new job or employer can be a daunting task. Personally I will not have peace of mind until I have the passport in my hand with the visa stamp on it. Somehow it becomes a sort of guarantee that I am a legal expat working here in UAE.

Really, many things can happen along the process of shifting to a new employer and changing employment visa. Somehow I am always haunted with my ex-colleague’s unfortunate experience. She was excited to leave her job because her application had been accepted in the other company and the employment package in all aspect was better.

So after signing her new employment contract, she handed her resignation and gave the usual one-month notice period. Close to her scheduled joining date to the new company, she received a notification that they were cancelling her supposed to be new employment.

It is really a nightmare and things can go bad if you can’t find an alternative job soon. No one really wants to experience such nightmare but sometimes there are inevitable surprises that hurdle your application for new employment visa.

This is the reason that I will not be sure of my new employer until the new employment visa is stamped on my passport.

Anyway, I am thankful that I got my passport back with the visa stamp.

Setting Out a New Journey

Two weeks back, I chatted with my old friend and he shared the result of his medical check-up. To his surprise, the doctor informed that he has borderline cholesterol. So he was advised to increase his physical activity and watch out his diet.

His story really prompted me right at the moment to evaluate about my health and lifestyle too. The following day I grabbed my sneakers and started a morning walk for half an hour. I intend to lose weight too and I set a goal to achieve 55 kilos by December 1, 2012.

I started to incorporate more fruits and veggies too on my diet, walk as much as possible everyday, use stairs instead of elevators, make mental notes on my calorie intake and began to educate myself about nutrition.

It is almost two weeks now since I set out this journey but there are days that I am tempted to eat croissants for snacks or to skip my exercise routine.

My weight ballooned during pregnancy and it is difficult to get rid of those extra pounds. Also, I really don’t have the strength of mind to do it until two weeks ago. The journey to lose weight and to be fitter is not really an easy one but I am conquering it one day at a time.

Wish me luck!

Half Way Through 2012…

This post is inspired by “A Gracious Life” wherein she recounted her experiences, occurrences, accomplishments and moments since beginning of the year. I see it also as an opportunity to be thankful for the blessings for the last 6 months and to assess how close we are to our goals for 2012.

So, here’s my share of tales.. lol!

Successfully left the job I abhorred. It took me years to heap enough courage to leave the job that I detested for years. I am really grateful of my new job and employer. It is a far cry from my previous job in terms of work environment, work (and stress) load, lifestyle and time.

Jobs and titles do not define me nowadays but it is the quality of life that I live and the time I spent with my love ones.

I am just really glad to be out from a toxic work atmosphere.

Downsize, Declutter. Last April we shifted from a two bedroom apartment to a studio room. It took us a lot of time to downsize while decluttering is still work in progress. You will never realize the amount of things you accumulate throughout the year until you start packing you stuff.

Rekindle my hobby. It was more than one year that I ditched writing because I had no time and energy left after working for 12-14 hours. Now, I resume to accepting writing projects again.

Hubby got to see our son, ZJ, for the first time in late January. ZJ was 4 months old that time.

Safe and Healthy, that’s what matters most. I could not ask for more because all of us including our families back home have been safe and in good shape.

ZJ’s escapades. He was barely six months old when he had his first airplane trip to Cebu then few weeks later he was off to Bacolod to meet his grandparents and a side trip to Iloilo on their way back home.

Lastly I am always grateful for the gift of time as a result of leaving my previous job because now I have the time and energy to pursue the things I enjoy doing.

Binding Service Provider in Abu Dhabi

As mentioned in my previous post, my company does not have massive operations here in the Gulf Region. In fact, we are just starting to build our presence here.

Because of this, we oftentimes outsource some services to run the day to day operation and other business needs. Lately we have requirements for binding bulky documents that have to be done professionally.

I mean you can always drop by in business centers to do such task but mostly it is for smaller scale. So a colleague recommended Fedex Kinko’s located in Electra Street behind Honda showroom. After the visit, I was actually impressed with their available services (i.e. printing, photocopying, binding, etc.) that cater for bulk and massive requirements.

Like for our case, it was like 5 sets and each set was approximately 400-500 pages thick. They did a good job for binding it along with the tabs to separate the sections. Also, the staffs are friendly and helpful except for their manager (I think he is the manager as he is the only one wearing a suit and sitting all the time in front of the PC, LOL!).

Anyway, here is the contact info of Fedex Kinko’s.

P.S. Honestly the day I stepped into their office, I fell in love to this kind of business. I dream of having similar type of business back home but just the thought of possessing the expensive printing and photocopying machines, I hold back my dream.
